Christopher Eagles

Christopher Eagles is a percussionist based out of Boulder Colorado. He holds a music degree from Acadia University (B.M.) which he completed under Mark Adam, and a master’s degree which he completed under the tutelage of Morris Palter at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Chris specializes in contemporary percussion music, both in a chamber and solo setting. He has appeared as a guest artist with chamber groups such as The Chamber Cartel (Atlanta), The Nebula Ensemble (Denver), and the Acadia Faculty Improv Group (Nova Scotia). An active commissioner of new work Chris has commissioned both solo and chamber works by composers such as Emerson Eads (Alaska), Lucas Oikle (Japan), Brian Topp (New Brunswick) Donald Stewart (Seattle) and most recently from Derek Charke (Nova Scotia). Chris’ chamber group the Midnight Sun 2, is currently commissioning works for what will be a full CD of works for flute and percussion, set to be recorded in early 2018. Chris’ wife Kathryn Hendrickson is his counterpart in that group.

Prior to master’s studies Christopher lived on the east coast of Canada where he studied and performed extensively as a classical percussionist as well as a Jazz and Rock drum kit player. In addition to this Christopher has spent two summers as a member of the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, one of Canada’s premier military bands.

Christopher was also an elite hockey player earning him a position on Team New Brunswick at the Canada Games in Whitehorse, Northwest Territories in 2007 and in 2008 he was selected by the Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior League entry draft.

Niamh Mercer

Niamh Mercer is a percussionist from Apple Valley, CA. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Percussion Performance from Humboldt State University in 2015 under the direction of Dr. Eugene Novotney. During her time at Humboldt State University, Niamh had the opportunity to study and perform music from cultures around the world; the steel pan tradition of Trinidad and Tobago, Malinke drumming styles (West Africa), Anlo-Ewe traditional rhythms (West Africa), Samba Reggae and Samba Batucada(Brazil), as well as traditional Afro Cuban rhythms.

As a performing artist Niamh has worked throughout California and Alaska with groups such as; The Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, The Arctic Chamber Orchestra, The Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Orchestra, Opera Fairbanks, Ensemble 64.8, Humboldt State Calypso Band, Humboldt State World Percussion Group, Humboldt State West African Ensemble. As an educator, Niamh has given private lessons in classical and world percussion. As an instructor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Niamh has been the instructor of record for Explorations in Music, and the World Beat Ensemble.

Niamh is currently pursuing her Masters in Music Performance from the University of Alaska Fairbanks under the direction of Dr. Morris Palter and Eric Retterer. She plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado in the Fall of 2017 to attain her Graduate Performance Certificate.
