    World Beat Percussion Ensemble
    This class is an introduction to percussion music found in a variety of cultures from areas of the world such as Ghana, Zimbabwe, India, Cuba, and Indonesia. This exploration of different styles of music will serve to improve the student’s existing abilities as a percussionist and, more importantly, musician.

  • 01

    Show Choir (It’s All About Glee!)
    This ensemble will perform various styles of music, including Broadway show tunes, pop, and jazz. This is a group of strong singers who will also utilize dance and movement.

    Academy Orchestra (By audition only)
    This orchestra is for advanced students who will perform with Academy faculty, staff, and mentors. If you choose this option, be sure to choose a second option in case you don’t audition into the group.

    Class Piano
    This is for anyone interested in learning a new skill or working on skills you have already learned. The instructors will work with each student at his/her own pace.

    Music Theory I
    Everything you need to know about basic music fundamentals and beginning music theory. If you need review or more practice on music basics, this class will work for you, too. You might be assigned to this class based on your audition.

    World Beat
    This class is an introduction to percussion music found in a variety of cultures from areas of the world such as Ghana, Zimbabwe, India, Cuba, and Indonesia. This exploration of different styles of music will serve to improve the student’s existing abilities as a percussionist and, more importantly, musician.

    Beginning Guitar
    Open to all students, no prior experience needed, but you must have your own guitar. This class will provide an introduction to playing guitar in a wide range of popular styles. We will cover tuning, open position chords, scales, progressions, and accompaniment in the context of popular music.

    Brass & Woodwinds Chamber Music
    Students are placed in chamber music classes based on audition and instrument. In a chamber music section you will have opportunities to play one to a part with no conductor while receiving regular coaching from one of our faculty. Participating in chamber music is a great way to develop your musicianship.

    Jazz Choir
    Open to all students interested in producing the easy listening of jazz choral music.

  • 02

    Piano Lessons/Practice
    Individualized practice on material and techniques, with some one-­on­‐one time with the instructor. Each student proceeds at his/her own pace. Beginning to advanced students may take this class.

  • 03

    Celtic Music
    Open to all instruments. Explore the many varieties and sounds of Celtic music from Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. Various types of tunes will be taught by ear while students learn about the history of Celtic music as well as the ornaments, stylistic elements, and history that make this type of music unique.

    Rhythym Theory
    Understanding  how  to  count  rhythmic  patterns  is  a  basic  requirement  for  musicians.  This class will give you the information you need in order to become an accomplished musician.

    Music of the Ages
    A brief exploration of Western classical and popular music and how that music has changed through the ages.

    Guitar Ensemble
    Limited to students specifically attending academy for guitar or those with instructor permission. The class will provide an introduction to classical guitar playing through standard ensemble repertoire. Students will learn how to read music for guitar and develop the skills necessary for advanced guitar study.

    Percussion Ensemble
    A  workshop  in  music  at  the  cutting  edge.  Students  will  be  instructed  and  coached  in contemporary music written by composers such as Steve Reich, John Cage, Nigel Westlake, Dan Levitan, and Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic. An introduction to music written especially for percussion!

    Chamber Music-­‐strings, brass, woodwinds
    Students are placed in chamber music classes based on audition and instrument. The chamber music option offers opportunities to play one to a part with no conductor, while receiving regular coaching from faculty. Participating in chamber music is a great way to develop your musicianship.

    By audition only, for faculty, staff, mentors, and advanced students.

    Piano Lessons & Practice

    Advanced Music Theory
    This course focuses on the building blocks of music analysis. It will apply students’ prior knowledge of the fundamentals to topics including counterpoint and harmonic analysis.

    Opera-­Musical Theatre
    If you love musicals, then come sing and dance with us to your favorite tunes from Broadway!

  • 05

    Music of the World
    Embark on a global musical tour and enrich your awareness of cultural sounds from music throughout the world!

  • 06

    Beginning Ukelele
    This class is open to all students; you must bring your own ukulele. No experience required. This will be an introduction to playing ukulele in a wide range of popular styles. The class will cover tuning, chords, scales, progressions, and right hand technique while strumming away to your favorite songs!

  • 07

    Trap Set
    Feel the groove! We will learn how to play styles ranging from Jazz and Latin to Rock and Funk. We’ll cover things like basic setup, drum fills, comping, and soloing.

  • 08
